The Institute for Market Research - GfK RUS - is the Russian subsidiary of the GfK Group, one of the largest global market research organizations in the world.

Founded in Nuremberg in 1925, GfK was a pioneer in European market research. Its founders included Ludwig Erhard, who later became West Germany Chancellor and one of the fathers of the German economic miracle.

In the early 1990s, our company GfK-Rus also became a market research pioneer in Russia. Together with our customers - manufacturers, retailers, services providers, and advertising agencies - we have come a long way, a way that began with the birth of a new economic system in our country, that led through several macroeconomic crises, and that eventually resulted in the current revival of the Russian economy.

GfK-Rus' main objective is to provide authentic and reliable information for players in the economic, social, and political life of Russia. We ultimately aim to raise the competitiveness of companies by helping them meet consumer demand as effectively as possible.

Another objective is to contribute to the development of market research as a whole. This is only possible through the development and improvement of research technologies together with interaction with our clients (the end-users of the information we supply) and our commitment to provide them with the best possible services.

Our aim is to make use of the GfK Group's broad international experience, adapting it to and developing it in a specifically Russian environment. If we recall that as little as four years ago the number of Russian companies on our clients' list amounted to barely more than 5% of the total - whereas now that number is approaching 30% - we can say with justification that that aim is largely being achieved.

In conclusion, I would like to quote a saying that has become very popular in our company: 'Market research is a business in the United States, an industry in Great Britain, a science in Germany, and an art in Russia'. 6th GfK Research Summit in Barcelona

Americans are the champions of investing


Nuremberg/Frankfurt, June 30, 2006 - When it comes to private investing, Americans are far ahead of Europeans. Half of Americans have investments of over 50,000 US dollars. Swiss and Belgian citizens lead in Western Europe. While shares remain most popular in the USA, Western Europeans are still responding cautiously in their choice of investment form and primarily investing their money in savings accounts. These are the findings of the current Investment Barometer survey carried out in spring 2006 by GfK Custom Research Worldwide on behalf of the Wall Street Journal Europe.

In terms of the availability of private assets, Americans are clearly ahead: almost half of the respondents indicate current ownership of assets worth more than 50,000 US dollars. In Europe this is particularly true of the Swiss and Belgians. One third of the Swiss and 29% of the Belgians declare that they own more than 50,000 euros in assets. On average this applies to just 10% of Western Europeans. In Germany and Spain it holds true for only 7%.

The citizens of Central and Eastern Europe are generally much less likely to hold assets. As in the two previous years, 2% of the population say that they have assets of more than 25,000 euros at their disposal - to make the findings comparable, the value of 50,000 euros had been reduced to 25,000 euros for the countries of Central and Eastern Europe.
